Description
At 11:30pm on Sunday May 23rd two vehicles were racing down Maitland Drive. Vehicles had to be going at least 75-80 mph. As I was getting out of my vehicle they nearly took me and my car door. I’ve NEVER seen anything like it on this street and I’ve lived here 25+ years. The city has not once addressed the increasing danger that has come with opening Ron Cowan Pkwy and the high speed traffic including Public Transportation this has caused on this small residential street. Empty AC buses narrowly squeeze down this street and cause traffic. These traffic incidents have resulted in rear view mirrors being hit and neighbors cars being totaled! What in the heck are our city officials doing!?

Thank you for reporting your concerns about street safety in Alameda. Your report will help inform the City of Alameda’s work to achieve our Vision Zero goal of eliminating traffic fatalities and severe injuries. We will use street safety reports, including yours, in combination with crash data and equity indicators to prioritize and design street safety investments. This evaluation will generally happen on an annual basis, with some exceptions for clear and pressing trends. Issues that the City deems to be immediate safety concerns will be elevated for quick action.
We will pass along your concerns about AC Transit buses. Unfortunately automated speed enforcement cameras are not currently legal in California.
