Two new schools just opened at the Blake Center here, and the pedestrian situation crossing the intersection is really terrifying. In particular, traffic takes the wide right turn from Blake onto Valley at high speed and often disregards the no turn on red sign, sometimes without even stopping.
Crossing guard needed at this intersection in morning and again at dismissal time. So students at 3:45 today struggling to cross the street as cars continue to run the light from Blake turning right onto valley. Also preschool parents with young children sometimes with bikes, strollers or wagons having same problem crossing.
I agree with this post 100%. This intersection is a pedestrian nightmare, and with all the new apartments going up there will only be more and more pedestrians. More needs to be done to protect people here. POLICE ENFORCEMENT of basic traffic laws should also be considered. (But I know NHPD is understaffed and overly busy with a lot of violent crime as it is.) Even so, NOW is the time to act to prevent a tragedy.
Big picture: we need safer crosswalks at this important and busy intersection.
