Good luck on this one. I have reported a dead racoon and then a dead deer on Redwood Road. No one ever came out to remove the remains so guess who did? Yes, me!
Told you so. The racoon and the deer just dried up and then I went and put what was left of them in a big garbage bag and put it in my trash container.
Well then...there's no need for Public Works, is there? If the citizenry takes over the job of removing roadkill, what incentive does the City have to do it? Our tax dollars can be allocated elsewhere. Perhaps the funds allocated to (not) removing roadkill can be redirected to funding additional trucks, FTE, fuel, etc to remove the piles and piles of unwanted furniture that populates the streets of Oakland.
Guess not! I just got in from cleaning the litter on the divider along Redwood Road from Mountain to Campus Drive. I do it at least once a week, and pick up the litter along the sidewalks daily when I am walking my dog. The animals that attend Merritt College just throw their trash out of their car windows when they are driving up the hill to college. Grrr!!!
By the way, Annoyed, Public Works doesn't pick up dead animals, Animal Control does. When you call, you get the pound on 29th Avenue, which is usually closed because of budget cuts. Then then direct you to the Oakland P.D., non-emergency line. Like they don't have enough to do already. We found a stray dog by the old Oak Knoll hospital and a neighbor up there said he had called Animal Control early in the morning and they never came. We found it around 5 P.M. and no one had come out to pick him up. We were afraid he would get hit by a car, so the neighbor ended up taking him home for the nite. I don't know if he kept the dog or not.
Dear Annoyed. Public Works does not have anything to do with animals. Animal issues are handled by the Police Department. If you have a problem with the service of the Police Department you need to call Internal Affairs at 238-3161. They will investigate if the police ever received the complaint and why it was not handled. You may get dead animals picked up faster if you call Animal Control direct at 535-5602 and press 0 and leave a message. Do not call police dispatch for dead animals.

The dead cat is still on the side of the road.
Flat, hairy, and disgusting.
Still there.
