What you might be hearing IMO are freight trains from the western part of Heights. And there is zero respect for the multi-thousands of ppl who live in the neighborhood, honking is day and night. I wish the city did something as this is a serious noise concern. Conductors are supposed to sound their horn before crossings, however, they do that irrespective of the proximity of the crossing, whenever they feel like. I recently did record on video a case when the train honked for solid 4-5 minutes, no kidding.
