Description

It appears recent rephasing of this signal has made traffic flow less efficiently.

Since the work was done in the last 2 weeks, afternoon southbound traffic is regularly backed up much further than it was previous to the work. Starting as early as 3:15, traffic can sometimes be back to Ferguson Ave. Eastbound traffic is also seeing more significant back ups. Northbound traffic is sometimes backing up into the intersection with the end of the 189 ramp in ways it didn't previously.

Could the signal technician please monitor this intersection on a weekday afternoon to see if some minor modifications to the phasing could improve the flow? One thought is to have the south signal go to green for both the southbound traffic and the traffic turning left onto Farrell Street, as it was previously. The new phasing has a delay between when the green arrow shows and when the southbound light fully turns green. This delay seems to create an unnecessary delay in getting southbound traffic through the intersection.

Understandably, this entire area is poorly designed with three traffic lights in quick succession but until the Shelburne Road corridor study happens, many years from now, I know we're stuck with the mess we have.
